Elizabeth Edens Cox Barringer

Elizabeth "Liz" Edens Cox Barringer, 62, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. A celebration of her life will be held Friday, February 23, 2024, at 11 AM at Trinity United Methodist Church. Her family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Liz was born in Florence, South Carolina on September 12, 1961, to Wiley Reynolds and Ouida Allen Edens. She was raised in Darlington, South Carolina. She was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Liz graduated from St. John’s High School in Darlington. She furthered her education at Winthrop College, where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education. She later received her Master’s, also in Special Education, at East Tennessee State University. She loved all things her kids were doing. She was into Drama, if Coleman was singing, horses if Coleman and Frances were riding, football and baseball if Reynolds was playing, and basketball, if Frances was on the court. She was a schoolteacher. But, not just any schoolteacher, she was a special needs teacher. This was a profession she felt like she was called to do, and she was good at it. Her students, three generations of them, continued to have a large piece of her heart. She was currently teaching at Darlington Middle School. Liz had an outgoing spirit. Because of this, she loved hard. Cely Anne Brigman, Cindy Haynes Green, and Terri Langley-DuBose were her lifelong friends. While she was a student at Winthrop she made friends with Sara Jamme, Melissa Black, Tammy Parnell, Edi Cox, Audrey Peterson, Karen Oxendine, Colleen Clark, Becky Riley, Lisa Bishton, Hilary Marez, Gaye Eskew, Amy Woods, Carol Short, Stella Chisolm, Abby Cox, Ann Detyens. These girls, along with her sisters Rosanna Dudley, and Esther DuBose, made up a group whose friendship spanned over forty years. They are affectionally known as the “Eunices”. Liz is survived by her mother, Ouida Edens; her son, Reynolds Barringer; daughters, Coleman Cox and fiancé, Seth Maness, and Frances Pake and husband, Chase; sisters, Rene Palles and husband, Tommy, Rosanna Dudley and husband, Wayne, and Esther DuBose and husband, Bubba. Due to her love for children with special needs, memorials are suggested to Victory Junction, 4500 Adam’s Way, Randleman, NC 27317 or to a charity of your choice. The family will receive friends during the day at the home of her mother, Ouida Edens, 120 North Spain St., Darlington, SC and at the Home of her sister, Esther DuBose, 332 Country Club Blvd., Florence, SC
