Frances Brown Cox

Frances Brown Cox, 84, of Darlington passed away peacefully with her loving family gathered around her bedside on Saturday, March 4, 2023. Frances was the daughter of the late Sarah Mixon Brown Oates and Woodrow Brown. Frances, a devoted and loving wife was preceded in death by her husband, William Preston "Bill" Cox. In addition, Frances was predeceased by her beloved grandson, William Glen Norman and step granddaughter, Jenny Smith; her sisters, Jeanette Rhodes and Linda Stewart, her brother John Brown; and special friend, William Thomas "Tommy" Odom, Jr. Frances had a deep faith in her Lord Jesus Christ and served him as a loving and kind daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Frances enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends. She had a special place in her heart for those in need and quietly lent a helping hand whenever she had the opportunity and the means. Frances’ greatest treasure was her love for her children, grandchildren, great and great-great grands. She leaves to cherish her memories, her loving children; two daughters Jennie (Mike) Smith of Cheraw, SC, Connie (Wayne) McKay of Florence, SC, and her son Curtis (Cynthia) Cox of Pass Christian, Mississippi. Frances held dear her grandchildren Curtis (Laura) Cox, II of Appomattox, Virginia, Natalie (Rhett) Phillips of Cheraw, SC, Christy Bray of Pass Christian, Mississippi, Lindsey (Michael) Hughes of Los Angeles, California, step granddaughters Ashley (Kyle) Sink of Simpsonville, SC and Julie (Jon) Douglas of Charleston, SC; her 9 great grandchildren; and her 6 great great grandchildren and looked forward to their every visit. Through the years, Frances loved family gatherings. She looked forward to the special times spent with her siblings and adored her brothers, Woodrow "Buddy" (Mottie) Brown, Jr., Donnie Brown both of Darlington, SC, and Bill (Angie) Brown of Windsor, Georgia; her sisters, Peggy Blackmon, Betty (Manuel) Bryant, Darlene Ritchie all of Darlington, SC and Sue Brown of Columbia, SC. There were a lot of special people in Frances’ life and we thank each of you for your love and devotion to her especially her beloved Aunt Cora Taylor. Frances retired from Dixie Cup in Darlington and held dear the many lifelong friends she came to know over the years. Frances will be missed dearly by her family and friends. Services will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Kistler Hardee Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery.
