Jason Michael Lanney

Jason Michael Lanney (42) of Florence, SC died unexpectedly in his home from diabetic complications on Wednesday, June 7th, 2023. He was born in Salem, Ohio to Kevin Francis and the late Tina Marie Lanney on October 20th 1980. He was a graduate of United Local Highschool and studied Motorsports Engineering at the University of Northwestern Ohio. Jason spent his childhood exploring the lakeside and woodlands of his great-grandparents home at Guilford Lake. Getting into all kinds of shenanigans with friends, he enjoyed every kind of vehicle he could get his hands on. From dirt bikes and four-wheelers he eventually set his sights on tinkering with his dad’s 1980s Mustang, turning it into a sparkling orange drag racing car. This earned him the name Racin’ Jason in highschool. After college he moved down to Mooresville, NC to pursue his dream of working in Nascar. He found a happy family working with Bob Schacht Motorsports, working on the #75 car in multiple ARCA races from 2007-2015. He switched gears and started working at Niagara Bottling where eventually his skills helped him grow within the company over time. He was well loved by his coworkers. He enjoyed spending weekends and holidays with his daughter, his step son and their mother sharing pleasant co parenting duties together and loved watching his daughter play competitive volleyball. He was so proud to see Chase grow into the young man he is now and was excited to be part of his life. He has always been a strong advocate for both these kids and would do anything he could to make sure they felt loved. Jason was a high energy spirit with unlimited, gas powered passion. He constantly needed to be working on something, to be thinking through problems, to be questioning everything he came across. He loved fiercely. He was a loyal and forgiving friend. His soul was filled with ways to find jokes in the depths of even the most sorrowful of times. Family was his most precious source of power from within, the most important being his daughter Maddie. He lived every day for her. Survivors include his daughter Madelyn Sue Lanney, his step son Chase (Brianna) Fraley and his Co Parent Brandy (Ted) Pappas of Waxhaw, NC, his sister Janelle (Kyle) Stephenson, his nephew Icarus Stephenson, nieces Serenity and Lilith Stephenson of San Antonio, TX and, his Father, Kevin (Anabella) Lanney of Hanoverton, Ohio as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
