Kenneth Richard Conyers

Kenneth Richard Conyers Kenneth R Conyers age 88 passed away at his oldest daughter’s home in Florence, SC on May 14, 2023. He was of a member of Bay Branch Freewill Baptist Church and was the son the late Lever Edward and Rhudell Lee Conyers Sr, born on 10-09-1934 and raised in Hobbs Crossroads, Sumter County and lived in Darlington, SC for 56 years until his health declined in 2022. He graduated from Sherwood Consolidated High School in 1952. After graduation he said farming wasn’t for him and he decided to join the Army on September 12, 1952, to September 9, 1955, and served in the Korean War, as an Engineer Equipment Bulldozer Operator where he cleared roads and runways. He was honorably discharged on September 16, 1960, as a reservist. It was at an early age that he fell in love with watching a bulldozer with Davis Moragne Construction clear land near his family home and at times the operator would let him ride along and taught him along the way. After separating from the Army, he worked with this construction company for a short while and then worked briefly at National Dairy Products/Sealtest but, He missed his beloved caterpillar bulldozer and went to work at Willis Construction Company for 49 years until the company was sold in 2008. He prepared many roads throughout SC and was a valued employee to Mr. Gene and Frank Willis. His favorite pass time was chewing his Beechnut, anything that involved his 3 grandsons, family dinners, watching baseball and Bob Barker Price is Right. Affectionally called by daddy, granddaddy, Kenk and Uncle Kenk by his family. He is survived by his daughters Vicki (Jimmy) Pettigrew, Jennifer (Jay) Hutchinson, grandsons Lex (Hannah) Pettigrew, JHess Hutchinson and Owen Hutchinson, Sisters Barbara (Billy) Denning of North Carolina and Gayle (Butch) Conyers of Georgia and several nephews and nieces and special friends Coleman and Linda Ratterree. Preceding him besides his parents are brothers Lever Edward “Bud” Conyers Jr, Harry Lee (Carolyn Webb) Conyers Sr, and sister Phoebie Ann Conyers (Dick) Singletary. The family wishes to thank his favorite hospice nurse Carol Ann Bryant for all her love and support and to Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home. A casual dress Celebration of Life and Visitation will be held at Bay Branch Freewill Baptist Church in Timmonsville, SC on June 10, 2023, at 10:00. A private graveside burial will follow at Tabernacle Campground Cemetery in Lynchburg, SC In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Durant Children’s Center.
