Doris Hammonds

August 4, 1930 - October 15, 2017

Darlington, South Carolina Doris James Hammonds was born in Darlington County on August 4, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Ervin and Beulah Samuel James. She departed this life on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at home in Darlington, South Carolina. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 11 AM at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, 513 Gilchrist Road Darlington, SC, 29532, directed by the family. She received her formal education in the Darlington County public schools and was a 1971 graduate of Mayo High School. Doris lived all her life in Darlington County and was retired from McLeod Health in Darlington. She became a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness Darlington congregation in the early 80’s and remained a faithful member throughout her life. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and family member. She will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her. Those who shared the joys of life with her and survive to cherish her memory are: her husband, Charles Hammonds of Darlington; three daughters, Helen Lamar James of Livermore, California, Lougenia Hammonds of Darlington and Yvonne Hammonds Jett of the home; one brother, Ervin James, Jr. (Bertha) of Whiteville, NC and one sister, Hattie Mae Murray of Darlington; two grandchildren, Angela J. Council (Ramon) and Melanie Jett; one great grandson, Tracy A. Jackson. One adopted daughter, Gloria Smith and a special niece, Joye Bruce. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Carolyn Jackson, Carrie Robinson and six brothers, Robert James, Henry James, Ulysses James, Cornell James, Dewey James, Roosevelt James. Services have been entrusted to Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home and Crematory of Darlington. Family and friends are invited to sign the online guest book at www.kistlerhardeefuneralhome.com
