James Elliott Williams Jr

April 20, 1953 - March 9, 2020

In the early afternoon of March 9, 2020, James Elliott “Jimmie” Williams, Jr, age 66, passed away peacefully in the company of his family at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC. Jimmie was born in Charleston, SC, on April 20, 1953 to J. Elliott and Elaine (Weaver) Williams, the second of five children (Debbie Clark, Michael Williams, Charles Williams, Gail Patterson). As part of a military family, he moved throughout his childhood, but he considered Darlington his home. It was the place where he lived happily with his paternal grandmother, Maude Williams, and where he attended St. Johns High School and met his future wife, Linda (Byrd). Jimmie attended the Citadel and graduated with a BA in Education from the University of South Carolina in 1976. The following year, he returned to Darlington, marrying Linda at Trinity United Methodist Church and starting a family soon after. Jimmie spent much of his career as a service representative for Signode but was a life-long learner and history buff, reading extensively and completing graduate course work at Francis Marion University. He loved the outdoors: hunting, farming, growing roses, and cultivating habitats where he could observe and appreciate wildlife. He made beautiful wood carvings and restored classic cars often to the music of the Allman Brothers or Patsy Cline. Jimmie is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda (Byrd) Williams; his two daughters, Elizabeth Elliott Baylor (and husband, Ken) and Sarah Caroline Williams; his granddaughter, Ava Svaton; his four siblings and their families, numerous special cousins - and a mostly disobedient Airedoodle, Baby. Family, friends, and others whose lives Jimmie touched are invited to the visitation at Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home, 315 Pearl St, Darlington on March 10 from 5-7pm and the memorial service at Trinity United Methodist Church, 126 Pearl St, Darlington, on March 11 at 3pm. If desired, memorial donations may be given in support of Jimmie’s church, Trinity United Methodist.
