January 29, 1943 - August 3, 2021
Janice Hyman Stambolitis, 78, of Florence, SC went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 3, 2021. Janice was born on January 29, 1943 in Lake City, SC to the late Lonnie and Addie Lou Hyman. In addition to her parents, Janice is preceded in death by her husband, Spyros Stambolitis; sisters Ruby Hilton and Maxine Bryant; brothers Carroll, Lloyd, and Harry Hyman. Janice is survived by her son, Ted (Nichole) Stambolitis; grandsons Philip, Boone, and Jaxson Stambolitis; in-laws; nieces and nephews; and all the people whose life she made a little bit brighter. Janice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all who met her. Janice always said that in order to have friends you must first be a friend and she demonstrated that every day. Janice never met a stranger and she touched generations of people from every walk of life. She tailored her touch to the person in which she came in contact. She was comic relief for some and a shoulder to cry on for others. She was a surrogate mother, caretaker, confidant, refuge, counselor, and spiritual advisor. Janice solved many world problems, and sang many songs from Elvis, to Michael Jackson, to old time gospel from her rocker on the porch. Either way, she gave you something good. Her personality, flare for the dramatic, and embellishment rivaled only by her compassion, joviality, and hospitality. Janice never made a lot of money but always believed and had faith that the Lord would provide. This was never more evident than the fact that she managed to feed multitudes of people with what can only be described like the “Fishes and Loaves” parable in the Bible. So many people that sought her council and received it. There is nothing you can really say that can adequately define Janice (not that me or anyone else was ever going to define Janice). Janice was simply like no one you have ever met. She loved Jesus (and you were going to church), she loved music, kittens, trees, and rain. Most of all, she loved people. Even when she stayed well passed her comfort level, she administered to the needs of the world that came calling. Janice was a selfless giver and person that no one will forget or replace. She was a great wife and a better mother and grandmother. Again, there is no real way to articulate all what Janice meant to all of us. Her legacy and the depths in which she reached people is unparalleled. She always told us to follow peace. As believers, we know and have peace in our hearts that we will see Janice again. For you see the Lord has called his faithful servant home to take her rest. She is finally at peace! May her memory be eternal. Her Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held Saturday, October 16th at The Lake City Park Picnic Shelter (273 North Church Street Lake City SC 29560) at 2:00 PM. Come share your best Janice stories. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you please make a donation to the Florence Area Humane Society in her name.
