Karen L Benton

June 15, 1940 - February 22, 2022

Karen Locklear Benton left this life on February 22, as she lived it, with her husband of 62 years, C.E. Benton, by her side. Karen was born June 15, 1940. She graduated from St.Johns High school and married her high school sweetheart. Together they raised 3 girls. She was pre- deceased by two daughters, Regina Benton Buffkin, and Rhonda Benton Rabb(Jim). She was also predeceased by a grandson Michael Buffkin. One of Karen's proudest accomplishments was walking beside her oldest daughter Regina, as they graduated together from Francis Marion University. She leaves behind to cherish her memories, husband, CE Benton. Daughter, Roxane Holbrooks (Chip). Eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. After raising her family in Florence, she and CE moved to Richmond, Va for 12 years .She loved that time spent with her husband supporting his work, traveling the world, and enjoying every opportunity to welcome family and friends into her home. It was in Richmond that Karen met Theresa, who became a treasured lifelong friend. CE and Karen returned to Florence to enjoy retirement and be near family and friends. They loved good food, good music, and dancing their favorite dance, the Carolina Shag. As Karen's health declined, she enjoyed spending most of her days soaking up the warm sunshine on her deck overlooking the pond. Karen was blessed with many wonderful caregivers. But none as dedicated as Tyra and Lisa during the last years. We are eternally grateful for their tender loving care. Our family would also like to thank Butch and Darlene with McLeod Hospice. They truly exemplify everything that hospice care should be. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 5th, 11:00 a.m. at Kistler-Hardee.
