Darlington, South Carolina Ronald Francis “Chief” Gilbert, 78, of Darlington died on Saturday, August 8, 2020. Services are being held privately. Ronald was born in Central Falls, Rhode Island. He was the son of the late, Joseph E. Gilbert and Viola Frances Whitney Gilbert. Ronald or “Chief” to many was a chief fire fighter and Hazmat trainer in Coventry, Rhode Island. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Darlington and the St. David’s Masonic Lodge in Darlington, SC and West Warwick, Rhode Island. Chief was a Shriner in Rhode Island and a Deacon at The Good Shephard Episcopal Church. He enjoyed hunting, anything fire related and the Boston Bruins Hockey Team. Surviving are his wife, Linda Gilbert; his children, Todd Gilbert (Kimberly), Richard St. Hilaire, Dawn Burdick (George), Brenda St. Hilaire (Brian Robbins), and Cynthia Joubert (Michael); 15 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren; and his brother, Kenneth Gilbert (Linda). Ronald was preceded in death by his parents listed above; and by his son, David Gilbert. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605. Arrangements are being handled by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home and Crematory.
