Louise Carter Dixon

Clara Louise Carter Dixon, age 94 died peacefully at her home on Saturday, March 22, 2025. Mrs. Dixon was born in Darlington County November 26, 1930 to Albert and Gertrude Sports. She was the last surviving member of her family, and was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Ruby Sports Driggers of Florence, Julian Sports of Florence, Adell (Dell) Sports McElveen of Sumter, Mary Sports Mettens of Atlanta, GA and Albert (Bub) Sports Jr of Darlington. She was also preceded by her husband, LeRoss (Ross) Carter of Darlington and was the loving mother of their two sons, Ronald LeRoss (Ron) Carter of Darlington and Lewis Douglas (Doug) Carter (Connie) of Myrtle Beach. Following Mr. Carter's death, she later married James Ervin Dixon of Hartsville for many years before his death, and became a loving mother to her new expanded family. In addition to her immediate family, she was grandmother of Michelle Carter Norton (Chris) of Darlington, Kimberly Carter Gulledge (Carl) of Columbia, Chris Carter (Jennifer) of Darlington, and Doug Carter Jr. of Effingham and six great grandchildren. Her passion was centered around her family and she made sure they had the best life she could lead them in and always made time to listen and share insight with each. She was an avid seamstress and had a passion to create and sew the latest fashions. During her earlier years she was a volunteer in the offices of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Hartsville. She along with her first husband Ross, were charter founding members of Temple Free Will Baptist Church in Darlington, and she was actively involved along with other early families in the raising of the original church. This church today has grown to become a vibrant Christ centered church serving many families in the Darlington area and around the world. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at 11 AM in the Thomas C. Kistler Memorial Chapel at Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 AM on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Temple Free Will Baptist Church, 1660 N.
