Samantha Brown, 44, of Lamar passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 10, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Elim Methodist Church, 3900 Oates Highway, Lamar, SC. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 pm on Monday, November 10, 2025 at the church and other times at the home of her mother, Gwen Hornsby, 3718 Oates Highway, Lamar. She was born August 30, 1981 in Richland County to the late James Edward Sr. and Gwen Hornsby. Sam, as she was affectionately called, attended Robert E. Lee, now named Lee Academy. Sam was her father’s shadow. She often joked that her dad raised her to be “the man anyone could respect and count on,” even though she was his daughter and the youngest of five. From him, Sam learned to fix things instead of throwing them away, to work hard, and to help her neighbors without hesitation. Whenever friends or family needed anything, she was always the first to lend a hand. While she loved working hands-on in the shop with her father, she also handled the business paperwork and secretarial needs. After her father’s passing, Sam proudly continued his legacy by operating Eddie Hornsby Auto Sales—keeping alive the work ethic, craftsmanship, and loyalty to community that he had instilled in her. Outside of the garage, Sam had a creative side that shone just as brightly. She loved to bake and was well known for her cakes, which tasted every bit as good as they looked—beautifully made and always from the heart. Sam leaves her husband, Garren; children, Payne and Ava Brown and Ren Watford (step-son); sister, Jennifer Jackson (Scott); brothers, James Edward “Eddie” Hornsby Jr. (Brandee), Bryan Hornsby (Tiffany), and John Timothy Hornsby; nieces and nephews, Kasie Self (Lindsey), Stefanie Hornsby, Jessica Chapman, Zachary Chapman (Izzy), Taylor Thompson, Alex Hornsby, Baylee Hornsby, Cole Jackson, Tucker Hornsby, and Reese Hornsby; and great nieces and nephews; paternal uncle and aunt Geoff and Evelyn Hornsby McKinney.
